Artist Statement

My work deals with the connections we find in people through personal interest and nostalgia from our childhood. It investigates the innocence of childhood, the ideals, and morals of characters that connect us to likeminded individuals, creating bonds that last a lifetime. Using appropriation of iconic characters from my childhood I create narratives of common situations, taking the ordinary things of everyday life and making them notable, imposing characters into situations of normality. The use of popular culture in my work creates a personal bond with the viewer, opening up dialogue, and asking the questions of why, and who these charters are and why they pertain to these situations, which divulges a very personal aspect of my work, sharing the parts of myself with the viewer in my mission to create a conversation with strangers.
