Working with various types of fibers and materials that surround us in our daily lives, defines our identities and our communities. Learning about the history of collective making in fibers has transformed the way I create my work. The cooperative nature of textile and fiber work and its history in building community was what attracted me to the medium, the ideas of mutual learning and teaching through craft as well as sharing the joy of these objects created be it physical or utilitarian, the hand-worked craft becomes a celebratory item in which can be shared and touched and used to bring others together. I continue to create by constantly researching through questioning materiality, my current work, Planter Boxes of Earthly Delights, is a play on Hieronymus Bosch’s The Garden of Earthly Delights, recreating structures and forms that play on the divine and the grotesque while continuing my mode of making, experimentation with materials and the use of everyday materials we find in our immediate surroundings.
